Mother’s Day recognizes mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well as their positive contributions to their families and society and was first celebrated in 1908. Popular observances include holiday card and gift giving, churchgoing often accompanied by plants or flowers, and family dinners. At Saint John Kanty there are several ways to honor the significant lady in your life, living or deceased.
A plant sale sponsored by the Saint John Kanty/Saint Adalbert Rosary Society. Purchase a Peace lily (an indoor plant) in a 4 inch pot for your mom, grandmother, wife, mother-in-law or other special person in your life, or offer the plant for those deceased loved ones. Memorial plants will have the name of your loved one on the plant and can be taken home following Mass or left at the altar. Plants will be blessed at Mass on Mother’s Day but can be picked up the day before (please phone the rectory). Cost: $10 each plant. Light a Vigil light for $5 each. Lights will be blessed during Mass the second Sunday of the month, which this year falls on Mother’s Day, a perfect time to honor our mothers and/or other mother figures in our lives! Tickets can be purchased after Mass or by phoning the rectory (716-893-0412 weekday mornings between 8:30-10:30) and should be returned to Saint John Kanty no later than June 5.
