Saint John Kanty Church seeking developer for its former school building in Buffalo’s Broadway Fillmore area

Saint John Kanty Roman Catholic Church has released an RFP (Request for Proposal) for the purchase and redevelopment of its former school building.

Constructed in 1930 by Joseph Zakrzewski and Son, the building, known as the Lyceum, sits behind the church, rectory, and former convent (now a parish center). It is near Broadway, fronting on Swinburne and running through to Brownell.

The Lyceum has great potential for use as a redevelopment property, featuring a manageable size, adjacent vacant lots to aid with parking space, and close proximity to a major street and public transportation allowing convenient access to the City’s burgeoning waterfront and Medical Campus. The parish and the diocese hope that its sale and redevelopment will build on the success of Buffalo’s downtown renaissance and add to the ongoing efforts to revitalize the historic Broadway-Fillmore community.

Some possibilities for the repurpose of the building include, but are not limited to, residential, educational, and/or not-for-profit office or community space. The redevelopment of this building would provide a developer with a wonderful opportunity to capitalize on current development trends and contribute to continuing the rich history of the East Side of Buffalo.

Any proceeds from the sale of the property will go to the parish. For more details and history on the property please contact Christopher Byrd at kristop11@gmail.com or 716.218-0232.

The deadline for proposals is December 14, 2019.
