Sunday, February 26 is the start of our Pierogi & Placek sale and Basket Raffle. Join us for Mass at 8:30 and stay for the sale, which takes place in the rectory. Doors open 9:30-12:30.

In addition, St Adalbert’s delicious homemade Easter candy, including chocolate Last Suppers, will also be available, as well as tickets for a 50-50 Split the Pot Raffle, which will be drawn on March 17.

Consider having a Mass said for your loved one! Remember your loved ones who have passed away, for special occasions (birthdays/anniversaries), and for those who are ill. The Mass stipend is $15 per Mass. Contact the rectory during morning office hours to schedule your intentions…or go to this link: www.saintjohnkanty.com/mass-intentions/

Be sure to look at our prayer list in the bulletin…there are many people to pray for! Please remember to pray for those who you promised to, those who have no one to pray for them, and those requests that remain silent out of fear or embarrassment. Call the parish office during regular office hours to add or remove a name to our parish prayer list (716/893-0412).

You can also arrange for a Mass by going to this link on our website: http://www.saintjohnkanty.com/mass-intentions/

News on the Lyceum from the Developer: Community Services for Every1

Apartments at the Lyceum Project Breaks Ground

The project involves the renovation of the historic St. John Kanty Lyceum building at 97 Swinburne Street in East Buffalo’s Broadway Fillmore district, as well as ten adjacent lots. The school’s classroom and offices will be transformed into 42 affordable apartments, with 12 apartments reserved for households in need of supportive services. These residents will have access to rental subsidies and services funded through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative and administered by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. Community Services for Every1 will provide services such as case management, financial counseling, workforce development, and referrals to health, childcare and public benefit services.

The existing kitchen, cafeteria and activity room of the building will be renovated into 7,600 square feet of community space for afterschool programming, culinary arts/healthy eating education, and independent living and job readiness training services to both future residents and members of the surrounding neighborhood, to be known at The Lyceum Community Empowerment Center. Operated by CSE1, these services will be focused on assisting adults and children with developmental disabilities. The St. John Kanty Parish will sublease a portion of the space for parish activities.

The total development costs are projected at $23.1 MM and are financed utilizing the following resources: $14.7 million in private equity from the sale of NYS HCR 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and Federal and State Historic Tax Credits; NYS HCR Housing Trust Fund and Community Investment Fund subsidies; City of Buffalo HOME funds; OTDA HHAP funds; a CSE1 sponsor loan; and NYS HCR Clean Energy Incentive funds.
