The Christmas Wafer: The Opłatek

Thought you might enjoy this blast from the past:

The Christmas Wafer: The Opłatek

Click on the link below for an explanation of the custom of the  Opłatek, which was taken from the December 1988 St. J ohn Kanty bulletin. It resurfaced in our household today, stuck in the book Treasured Polish Christmas Customs and Traditions when I was referring to the Polish words for creamy mushroom soup (Zupa Gryzbowa)…

Fr Golombek was Pastor of SJK in 1988; the collection that week was $4,000; the collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious was $3,200! We had a Red Cross Blood Mobile coming to the parish on December 20, and a Ring in the New Year party was being held in the Lyceum, to include live music by The Krew Brothers, free beer, chasers, ice, noisemakers, hot buffet dinner and champagne toast at midnight! There was a 200 Investors Club, a Sunshine Seniors group, and confirmation classes!

We wish you and yours a very merry Christmas! Think about joining us at SJK for Mass: Koledy at 11:45 p.m. on December 24, followed by Midnight Mass, which includes the procession to the Manger. On Christmas Day: 10:30 a.m.

Oplatek
