The first Mass at Saint John Kanty was celebrated in January 1893; the last Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 10:15 a.m.
Celebrants for Mass will be Fr Cole Webster, Pastor of the Greater East Buffalo Family of Parishes, assisted by additional priests in the Buffalo Diocese. Long-time Saint John Kanty organist Lawrence Maguda will return for this Mass, joined by members of the former Saint John Kanty Choir as well as others from the Greater East Buffalo Family of Parishes. The rich history of Saint John Kanty includes a grammar school (closed in 1990 but which is now The Apartments at the Lyceum); years of weekly dances at The Lyceum; Boy Scout Troop 107 (celebrating their 100th anniversary in scouting with Mass at the church on May 4); many successful Lenten fish fries; as well as many years of selling homemade pierogi and placek.
Fr Cole and the Saint John Kanty congregation invite those with a past connection to the church, the school, the Lyceum, or Troop 107 to attend our last Mass.
The closing Mass will be followed by a luncheon at Pott’s Banquet Hall, 41 South Rossler Avenue, Buffalo. If you are interested in attending the luncheon, please sign up no later than May 1:
It would be wonderful to see our pews filled for our last Mass!
