Saint John Kanty Church and its Alumni Committee are excited to announce the Mary Project.
The Immaculate Conception statue, which has stood at the corner of Broadway and Brownell for almost a half-century, has deteriorated to the point that repair is not possible.
Since the church’s all-year Saint John Kanty School reunion in 2012, the Saint John Kanty Alumni Committee has met periodically to explore different projects where alumni could help the church in a meaningful way. The Broadway and Brownell corner is a special place to all alumni. It is the location of the church’s original school where Mary has served as a beacon of hope for the neighborhood through the years. “The Mary Project” will replace the Immaculate Conception statue with a new one, enhance the landscaping around it and move the cornerstone of the original school into this space.
To fund the project, the Saint John Kanty Alumni Committee is seeking donations from school alumni, staff, priests and community members associated with Saint John Kanty School. The goal is $1500. The deadline for donations is April 15th, 2014. Information on the project on how to donate can be found by clicking here—>
On Sunday, May 18th, 2014, Saint John Kanty will debut the new statue with a special alumni Mass at 10:30am with a May Crowning afterward. The public is invited to participate.
Saint John Kanty Church, established 1892, is located at 101 Swinburne Street in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia.
