The Lyceum in Its Early Days and Times…an Interesting Reflection

In 1941 a story: Hard Boiled Parish, appeared in Commonweal, an independent, opinionated Catholic magazine still available today. Read the story (it’s rather short) by clicking on the link below to find out how the pastor, Fr. Andrew Garstka, utilized the newly built lyceum to benefit the neighborhood residents and turn around what at the time was a neighborhood running wild. A very interesting fact in the story is that at times there were 8,000 people learning, working or playing in the lyceum!
