THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25 at 10:30 a.m.: MASS AND ANOINTING OF THE SICK

Say a prayer to St Jude in our garden in the rectory yard

Msgr Robert Golombek, former Pastor of St John Kanty Church, will celebrate Mass, offering prayers to St. Jude,  one of Jesus’ original 12 Apostles  and Patron of Hope and Impossible Causes. The anointing and laying on of hands will take place following Mass. The oil used in administering the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is called Oil of the Sick. It is one of the three Holy oils blessed by Bishop Malone at St Joseph Cathedral during Holy Week. Oil of the Sick is pure olive oil, with nothing added except the blessing of the Bishop. Its appropriateness as part of the outward sign of Anointing of the Sick is evident from the healing and strengthening effects which are characteristic of olive oil. The Anointing of the Sick is administered to bring spiritual and physical strength and can be repeated. It is not a sacrament only for those who are at the point of death. As soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in declining health or is in danger of death from sickness or old age, it is appropriate for that person to receive this sacrament.
