HOLY THURSDAY: ONE NIGHT AND SEVEN CHURCHES

From SJK grad and co-founder of Broadway-Fillmore Alive Christopher Byrd:

“If you haven’t done the Holy Thursday seven churches visitation in awhile, you should. It’s a great way to see all of the neighborhood’s glorious churches (Kanty’s included), and to get ready for Easter.”

A pilgrimage is a sacred time of prayer and reverence. Please always be respectful of others as you travel and are within each church. Do your best to maintain an attitude of prayerfulness, recognizing the presence of Christ among us.

On Holy Thursday, after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, many churches remain open late into the night for Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. We call to mind the words that Jesus spoke to the apostles in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper, when He said, ‘Could you not keep watch for one hour? Stay awake and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.’ On this Holy night, we allow our minds to travel back to that garden, when Our Lord obeyed His Father and entered into His Passion.

Begin your Holy Thursday journey with 7 o’clock Mass at St John Kanty (no Mass at St Adalbert). Both St John Kanty and St Adalbert will be open until 11 p.m. for visitation. The churches you will visit are beautiful testaments to the collaborative spirit of a faith community, built many years ago to honor God and to house the Most Holy Eucharist. They are an exquisite environment to lift our spirits from the darkness of this world. And…please join us as often as you can during Holy Week: Easter Triduum
