Friday of this week is All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation. This is the day of the year when we honor all those who are in heaven, but who have not officially been declared saints. We have all known truly holy people who have died, but who will never go through the canonization process. It is this group whom we honor Friday.
Saturday, on All Souls Day, we pray for our beloved dead, who are awaiting entrance into God’s kingdom. Together with both of these groups of people we form the Mystical Body of Christ – the saints in heaven, the souls in purgatory, and we, who form the church here on earth.
