Bishop Scharfenberger’s March 15 Update on the Coronavirus

THANK YOU to those who attended Holy Mass with us this weekend, as well as those who patronized our Pierogi & Placek Sale in Kanty’s Kitchen! Special thanks to SJK’s a capella choir, which sings the 3rd Sunday of every month and who today presented some beautiful and moving Polish Easter hymns.

As those of you who attended Mass know…our church, which seats over 1200 people, is able to provide plenty of room for ‘social distancing’ during the State of Emergency due to Covid-19.  From Bishop Scharfenberger:In light of the serious health risks to vulnerable populations posed by the novel coronavirus, and to prevent widespread infection, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger temporarily dispenses the Catholic faithful from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days during the coronavirus threat. Until further notice, Catholics of the Diocese of Buffalo should use their prudent judgment as to whether or not to attend Mass. Older adults, people with underlying medical conditions, and family members of such individuals should take special care in discerning the best course of action to avoid exposure to large groups of people. At this time, Mass will continue to be offered publicly as announced or scheduled, contingent on emergency governmental restrictions regarding larger gatherings.”

At present Stations of the Cross, which take place on Fridays during Lent at 3, weekend Masses at 4 on Saturday and 10:30 on Sunday, as well as our Pierogi & Placek Sale with Basket Raffle in Kanty’s Kitchen on Saturday and Sunday, will occur as scheduled. On Sundays Gorzkie Zale, the beautiful Polish devotion, takes place at 3 p.m. at Saint John Gualbert Parish, and all are invited to join in prayer and song.
