August 14: Vigil Mass: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Blessing of Our New Mary

The Assumption of Mary into Heaven (often shortened to the Assumption) is, according to the beliefs of the Catholic Church, Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy, as well as parts of Anglicanism, the bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.

This year the Assumption is a fitting time for the blessing of our Mary statue by Bishop Richard Malone as she is returned to our ‘Mary Garden’ on the corner of Brownell and Broadway. (As you will recall, the original Mary, a gift of Alumni & Friends in May, 2014, was damaged beyond repair this past May.) Saint John Kanty Parish Community is grateful for contributions and support by our parishioners and alumni, the Knights of Columbus  and the general public to allow us to go forward with Mary’s return to our garden.

Fr Mike and our Parish Community invite YOU to join us for our Vigil Mass of the Assumption, celebrated by Bishop Malone, followed by the blessing. Mass is at 5 p.m.; refreshments will follow in Kanty’s Kitchen.

ALL ARE WELCOME!
